Nice Visit

What a nice weekend we had. Grandma and Grandpa Bauman came to visit Adam and Emily (mom & dad too). Hopefully we didn't wear them out too much with all the "sibling love" (that's a nice way to put it :)

We've already begun a busy week. Adam just got home from a basketball game vs. Prairie Central. It's 10pm! Late night. Tony is helping him study for a test right now.

With a dentist visit tomorrow (Emily lost a filling), helping at school, working, holiday school parties and shopping, the week is flying by!

He played!

Yes, he played. A whole 3 min. He did good while he was in. They won. He seemed pleased that he actually got in. Whew!

Game tonight

Adam has a basketball game tonight and gets to "dress". We'll see if he get any minutes/seconds??? I'll let you know.

This week

Not a whole lot to talk about. The week goes fast!

This week Adam has two games at home. The second one he will get to "dress". No guarantees he'll play, but he gets to put on his uniform. School is quite a learning experience this year. He's trying to figure out how to stay organized, remember assignments and get them turned in on time. With all that he has going on, he's forgetting a lot and we are working on ways to help him get and stay organized.

Emily is quite busy too. She has volleyball, a field trip, Brownies, cheerleading and a birthday party this week.

Tony has the BHS soccer banquet on Tuesday and lets not forget the big hunting weekend!.....just what I've been looking forward to! :) (just kidding)

And me, same old, same old. If I can just keep up with all of them, I'm doing good!

Poison Ivy

Tony apparently came into contact with poison ivy while hunting or the day he was moving his tree stand. Saturday night I noticed that underneath his eyes it looked a little funny. I just thought he was tired. Sunday morning, it was worse. The skin just below the eyes was itchy, red and swollen. It's really the only place he has it. He's noticed a few itchy patches, but nothing bad and certainly not like his eyes. I convinced him to go to the doctor Monday and he's been put on medicine. Hopefully, it won't bother him too much and will go away quickly!

Busy week ahead

It's Sunday night and we're gearing up for another busy week. Adam's basketball team has three games this week. Each game day, the boys are expected to dress up in school which means shirt, tie, nice pants. We had to go shopping since we didn't have enough dressy clothes. Not sure how Adam will do all day in school in a tie!

Emily will have volleyball Monday night, Brownies on Thursday, a sleepover/birthday party on Friday, then cheerleading on Saturday.

Tony has, well the normal stuff - school, preparing for health class, grad work and of course, fitting in hunting any free moment he has. Also, there's an ISU basketball game on Wednesday that Tony and Adam will go to (Tony bought 2 season tickets this year).

I have to help in school on Monday and Wednesday, a board meeting on Monday evening and have to get everyone where they need to be all week, feed them and then get them ready for each day. Not to mention get some PCSL work done. Boy, the week sure flies by! I'm exhusted just thinking about it!

Band Concert

Adam had a band concert last night.  First, they had a spaghetti supper, then it was off to perform.  It was at Normal West High School.  Adam's group was short and sweet, but lots of fun because Adam got to play the cymbals during the first song.  He's says they are so heavy!  The second, surprised us.  They set all the snars up on the very front of the stage, then the band started playing and Adam and the other drummers just sat in the chairs with their arms crossed (planned, of course).  Then the band director turned around, stompped her feet and said "drummers!", then they got up and were the hit of the show.  It was very entertaining.  They drummed on everything, even thier neightbor's shoes!  It ended up with the drummers laying on the floor at the end.  I'm trying to get the video I shot on my camera sent via email or posted on the blog, but I can't figure it out???  I'll keep trying.  I'm sure you all would enjoy seeing it.

Adam is sure his father's son!  After the performance and gettimg the cymbals and drum put away, he lost his drum sticks, imagine that!  We looked everywhere, even back on the stage between performances.  He was a younger version of Tony, running around looking for something he lost.  What was funny was that they both just got thier hair cut (by me) and they looked so much alike.  So, I had two "Tony's" running aound searching for sticks.  I'm not sure I can handle two of them........?

News

Adam tried out for the Parkside Jr. High School 7th grade basketball team this past week.  They open the tryout to 6th graders even though it is a 7th grade team.  Well, he made the team as an Alternate.  He will get to practice with the team, go to games with the team, be part of the the team, but for games he will not dress.  There is the potential that he may eventially dress for games, but no guarantees.  We left it up to him whether he accepted the offer.  It has it's pros and cons.  Pros- 5 nights of basketball, learing a coach's plays, being part of something.  Cons - no games likely, he cannot be in any other basketball league like at Game Time Gym.  He decided he wanted to do it.  He knows most of the boys and thinks it will be fun.  First offical practice as a Parkside Python is tonight.  Oh boy, here we go...

No School today.  Parent/Teacher conferences for Unit 5.  Went to Emily's.  Her teacher said she's doing good.  She's ahead of the game with reading.  That's good to hear!  Adam's school does it a little differently.  The student's lead the conferences.  Actually, I didn't need to have an individual conference with his teachers, but they had a "coffee" where we could come, go over Adam's portfolio with him, have cookies and cider, talk with the teachers and other kids and parents in an open house style thing.  It was nice.  Not necessary since Adam is doing well  in school, but nice.  The Miller's asked about the Bauman's in PA.

This Saturday/Sunday we have a tournament in Fishers, IN.  Emily is staying home.  She doesn't want to miss a Halloween party she's invited to.  The weather is not supposed to be good where we are, so it's best she's not going for her and us :)

Changed another setting

Try it now.  Now I have it open to anyone.  If this doens't work, I dont' know what will.

Fevers Gone

Emily was fever free all day.  Yeah!  The cough is still there though.  She's stir crazy and ready to go back to school.  I think she will tomorrow.  Daddy stayed home with her today.  He needed a day off from school and has the days to take.  He played games and did a little work on his grad class stuff.  I was able to go into work for a while.  That was nice.

Changed a setting

I changed a setting to see if that helps.  If you have a google acct., it should work.  Try to make a comment to see if it works now.

Now we've all had it.

Emily is sick now.  So we have officially all had "it" (whatever it is).  We (Tony, Adam and I) all just had your run of the mill cold symptoms that lasted 4 or so days.  Emily has a fever along with cold symptoms.  Keeping her home from school on Monday since at 9:30pm Sunday her fever was back up to 103!  She always scares us with high temps.

Adam begins basketball tryouts tomorrow morning at 6am!  Crazy!  It's 3 days of it, then he finds out if he makes the 7 grade team.  Chances are not in his favor.  Too many kids, plus it's a 7 grade team, not 6 grade.  They keep 15 players and a few managers.  At the meeting alone I counted 37 6th and 7th graders and all weren't there.  Either way, it will be a good experience.  He has a Game Time Gym team all lined up and a possible Western Ave league to play on if he doesn't make it.  I think he'll be ok with it.

Emily and I made the mistake of bringing out a puzzle yesterday.  1000 piece.  Tony has been obsessed ever since!  and I'm afraid he may never rest until it's done.  He my have it done tonight since the Phillies game is still on.  I hope he leaves the finishing pieces for Emily! :)

Sick

We are all sick (w/the exception of Emily surprisingly!).  Tony started it.  Adam was next.  Now I have it.  Just the run of the mill cold symptions - stuffy nose, sore throat, headache.  Adam has more of a chest cold - he's coughing.  Hopefully, Emily will stay well, but I'm not counting on it.  She was at a sleepover b-day party the other night and I got a call from the mom that one of the girls was just diagnosed with H1N1.  Just Great!  Cross your fingers!

Despite being sick, it was a good weekend for soccer.  BHS won all 3 games at the Jacksonville tourn.  Adam's team won their game too.  Both were due for a win or two.

Senior night tonight for BHS.  Hopefully they win.  Adam, Emily and I are staying home and not braving the cold.

Tomorrow we get a new garage door & opener installed.  Ours finally broke for the last time.  We made it last for as long as we could with Wilbur's and Tony's reinforcement idea on the door.  I guess it was just time.  There's always somethng that needs fixing!

Well, that's all for now.....stay well!

Busy

Busy weekend.
Tony and Adam went to the U of I  vs. Penn State football game on Saturday.  They had a good time.
I spent my Saturday passing out pictures at the soccer complex.  It was cold!
Emily got to keep warm shopping and eating out.  I would have rather done that!

Busy week ahead too.  Tomorrow, Adam has basketball in the am and pm and Emily has volleyball in the pm.  Soccer games this week for BHS and Fusion (Adam).  I start helping out in Emily's classroom 2 times per week, plus watching Kaylee (my sister's baby) one day per week.  Hope I find time for work!

My Caterpillar Story

One day I got a caterpillar on a milkweed plant and brought him home. I put him in empty fish tank and gave him a leaf to munch on every once and a while.

I forgot about him for a few days and when I went out to check on him, he was gone! We didn't have a lid on the tank, so I figured he crawled out and probably died somewhere with no leaves to eat. I went to school and my mom found him. Under the chair that the tank was sitting on.

I was so excited to see that when I came home from school! How funny that he attached to the bottom of the chair! I kept saying "No way!"
So, we waited and waited and checked each day. Then soon he was in his cocoon.

We weren't sure how long it'd take to be a butterfly and tried to keep an eye on it. I was worried what we'd do when it did since it wasn't in a cage.
Then my mom checked one morning before school and we found the cocoon empty! We couldn't find the butterfly! He couldn't fly away because he was in our screened in porch. I had to go to school so I had to stop looking.

When my mom came home from work she looked out on the porch and saw a shadow of a butterfly on the wall. She found my butterfly! When I got home from school this is what I found!

I had to try to catch him and set him free outside. It was tough, but I did it!

Then, I set him free outside!
Bye, bye little butterfly!

And, that's the story of my caterpiller. :)

Game

BHS lost tonight, 1-0.  They played Champaign Central who's the top team in the conference.  They beat Normal 1-0.

Busy

Well, we're really busy right now as you can see since it's been a week since I last blogged.

Adam is busy with soccer, and intramural basketball right now.  Soccer two nights/per week.  Basketball in the mornings at 6:15am! two days a week.  Not to mention, homework, mostly math.

Emily is just busy being Emily.  Homework is easy for her, luckily.  She likes her teacher and class.  She rides her bike to school everyday.  There are a group that meets outside on our driveway and ride bikes to school everyday.  She's going to be starting volleyball at the end of the month that will meet once a week.  She's looking forward to that.

Tony is busy with BHS soccer, Fusion soccer, grad class homework, teaching health and PE.  There's a BHS game just on Thursday this week, but a Fusion tournament in Peoria over the weekend.

And, I'm busy with PCSL soccer.  Dealing with coaches and referees.  Mostly refereees right now.  Always finding replacements for those that can't do a particular game.

I'll try to get the kids to blog this week so you can here it straight from them. :)

Season Opener :(

Well I had my first soccer game of the season today. We lost 2-0 to LISC (little illini soccer club).
They're a team from Champaign. we didn't play very well at all, LISC isn't a very good team though we should of won that game. They had this really tall kid on there team he was probably 5,6" our defense wasn't very good tonight, we also didn't shoot very much. Well that's all for now "tciao" that's bye in porteguese.

No Wins

Two games, two losses.  BHS lost and Fusion (Adam) lost. :(
Now, back to school tomorrow.  Busy week ahead - intercity, practices, meetings, scheduling referees, open house at Pepper Ridge, etc......

Another week down

First full week of school is done.  The kids have adjusted fine to the new schedule.  Getting up in the morning hasn't been too tough.  I think they like it.  Emily comes home talking about school everyday.  Adam doesn't say a whole lot, but what he does say is positive.  Homework hasn't really kicked in yet for him.  Don't know if it will or not?  Emily has a packet to work on all week, nothing too hard.

We have soccer this weekend.  BHS on Saturday and Fusion (Adam's team) on Sunday.  I'm afriad that its going to be this way for the entire fall season.  Oh well, we'd be bored otherwise!

Weekend Plans

We're heading to the Chicago Area Saturday. Adam has a soccer training thing in Barrington on Sunday, so we decided to make a weekend of it. We'll do some shopping, eating out, swimming at the hotel. Weather should be nice, but cooler. I'm afraid fall is on it's way.

The First 1/2 day went well

Adam's survived his first bus ride to school. All he said was that the bus was loud and crowded. We think it takes about a 1/2 hour for the bus to get to school. He found his locker ok, but said he had to look up his locker combo (I wrote it in his backpack because I knew that would happen).

Emily had a good day too. She came home telling me all about what they did today. She has already made plans to walk to school tomorrow with a friend from class.

First Day of School

Adam & Emily started school today. Adam is going to Parkside Jr. High this year - 6th grade. First time for him on a bus to school.
Emily is going to Pepper Ridge Elem. - 3rd grade. She (we) get to walk to school.
I think both kids are ready for school and so am I! :)
